Can I use an old family photograph for a grandmother portrait?

An old photograph can be a meaningful starting point, especially if it captures your grandmother during a memorable time in her life. Look for an image where her facial features are reasonably clear. If the photograph is faded or damaged, share it with the artist to discuss which details can be recreated accurately.

How can I choose a portrait that reflects my grandmother's personality?

Think about the little things that make your grandmother special. Perhaps she loves gardening, enjoys reading by the window, or always wears a particular scarf. A photograph that captures one of these familiar details can make the painting feel more personal than a traditional posed picture.

Can a grandmother portrait show her at a younger age?

You can choose a photograph from an earlier chapter of your grandmother's life, whether it's from her wedding day, her twenties, or another meaningful period. Such a portrait can bring back memories that younger family members may never have seen. The original photograph helps preserve her appearance at that particular age.

What if I want a portrait of my grandmother but only have group photos?

A family photograph may still provide a useful reference, even when your grandmother isn't the only person in the picture. Choose an image where her face is visible and not obscured by other people. You can discuss a composition focused on her, using additional photographs if needed to clarify her appearance.

What kind of background would suit a traditional grandmother portrait?

A simple, softly colored background can keep attention on your grandmother's face and expression. Alternatively, a familiar setting, such as her garden or favorite room, can add personal meaning. Consider whether you want the painting to feel like a classic family portrait or a memory of everyday life.

Right from the start I could tell we were going to get a great painting of our dogs! Kate communicated fantastically from the beginning when we outlined what we would like all the way through to final delivery.
When we opened the parcel it is no exaggeration to say this was a “wow!” moment, the painting was everything we had hoped for and more. Everyone who has seen it has said how it captures our dogs perfectly.
Thank you for creating this memory for us to treasure forever. Trustpilot

I had a very customized piece that I needed. There was not one photo to make it possible. The work that was put in to make what I was looking for a possibility was amazing. The customer service and communication through the whole process was also amazing. I will definitely be working with Portraithy again in the future. To notch experience. Trustpilot
